New Zhenghe Plan: Taiwan’s medical industry goes to China to expand sales

The Foreign Trade Association, in order to further expand exports to mainland China, jointly organized the "2009 Medical Equipment Sales Expansion Delegation to Mainland China" with the Taiwan Medical and Biotech Equipment Industry Association. The delegation conducted sales expansion activities in Shanghai, Xiamen, and Shenzhen from April 12th to 19th, with over 260 members of the media, local medical equipment distributors, dealers, and importers in attendance.

This delegation is one of the initiatives under the New Zhenghe Plan and is the first time that Taiwanese medical equipment manufacturers have organized a group to enter the mainland market. There were 25 companies participating, including well-known Taiwanese pharmaceutical companies such as Cheng Kuang Pharmaceutical and Jing Ming, as well as Hwa Shin Medical Material, Hong Lin Instrument, Pu Yi, Sheng Wang, He Tai, Xin Feng Chemical, Bao Jian Technology, Kang Ding, Rui Er Mei, Hong Bin, Hong Ma Te, Si Hong, Ya Sui, Bao Jian, Fu Qiang Xin, Rui Jia, Shang Shi Biotech, Jie Hao, Qing Qiao Pharmaceuticals, Sheng Kai, and Hong Qi, among others. The range of products covers various hospital equipment and consumables, home care, and biotechnology.

The Foreign Trade Association stated that Taiwanese medical equipment manufacturers have been in the mainland market for many years, and industries such as medical consumables, electric mobility scooters, and blood pressure monitors are now being manufactured in mainland China. However, in the past, manufacturers mostly operated independently, and many of them did not have a deep understanding of mainland China's laws and administrative processes. This made it difficult for them to seek appropriate solutions when encountering obstacles in exporting products to mainland China. In addition to organizing press conferences and trade negotiations, the Foreign Trade Association specially arranged visits to the local competent authority, the Food and Drug Administration, to address the delegation's questions regarding mainland China's medical equipment regulations. They also invited various local medical equipment industry associations to share their experiences in importing medical equipment. At the same time, they visited mainland and Taiwan-funded hospitals such as Renji Hospital and Chenxin Hospital in Shanghai, as well as Chang Geng Hospital in Xiamen.
