A single root from Kinmen possesses antioxidative properties, guarding against arteriosclerosis

Assistant Professor Ke Yu-jen from China Medical University pointed out today at the Kinmen Traditional Chinese Medicine Conference that the single root of a plant in Kinmen has functions such as pain relief and anti-inflammatory effects, but further research is needed.

The Kinmen Traditional Chinese Medicine Conference was held today at the County Agricultural Experimental Station, hosted by the Chairman of the Kinmen Medicinal Plant Society, Huang Zhongqing. Participants included traditional Chinese medicine and Chinese medicine merchants from Kinmen, Taiwan, and mainland China's Fujian Anxi.

Both master's and doctoral theses have focused on the single root of a plant in Kinmen. Ke Yu-jen, who often conducts research on the single root in Kinmen, presented the preliminary research results.

Ke Yu-jen stated that over ten years ago, he conducted an investigation of medicinal plant resources in Kinmen and discovered that the single root had become a special economic crop and a unique industry in Kinmen. However, it was mixed with similar-named foreign medicinal materials, and there was almost no related research data on components, pharmacology, and toxicology. This sparked an interest in the single root in order to clarify the source of the medicinal material and differentiate its efficacy and safety.

He mentioned that in the research framework, there is a focus on the Kinmen single root of the soybean family and the traditional single root of the Apocynaceae family. Preliminary research shows that the Kinmen single root has antioxidant effects, can prevent arteriosclerosis, has analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects, and is non-toxic.

Zhengguang Pharmaceutical Company has already entered the Kinmen single root market and is developing patches mixed with other traditional Chinese medicines, expected to be launched next year.

The Kinmen single root is an industry supported by the Kinmen County Government's Agricultural Experimental Station. Processing companies for tea bags, patches, and dietary supplements collaborate with planting farmers. The main planting area is in Xigushan, covering about 10 hectares. After harvest, it is purchased at a guaranteed price by processing companies. [Source: China Times]
