Chiayi County Wetland Marathon

To promote the ecological significance of the Ao Gu Wetland in Chiayi County, the Chiayi County government organized the first "Chiayi Ao Gu Wetland Marathon." In response to environmental concerns, Cheng Kuang Pharmaceuticals also sponsored herbal products for the participants to use.

Wang Jianlong, the Director of the Chiayi County Department of Education, pointed out that this was the first time Chiayi County had organized a marathon event. Initially, due to differing opinions among birdwatchers and to avoid disturbing the winter migratory birds, the event was scaled down to a half marathon. Despite the limited scale, experience, and budget, it was still successfully concluded.

This running event attracted nearly 5000 participants. On March 2nd, at 7:00 AM, the race started in front of the Gangkou Palace in Dongshi Township, including a 3-kilometer leisure group, a 6-kilometer youth fitness challenge, and a 21-kilometer half marathon.

Many participants praised the suitability of the Ao Gu Wetland for hosting a marathon. Further evaluation will be conducted during the post-race review meeting, and there will be further communication and coordination with bird enthusiasts regarding the location and timing. It is hoped that there will be an opportunity to hold a full marathon race next year.
